Fabrics: To say the decorator samples I find at the Scrap Exchange Creative Reuse Center are “high-end” doesn’t do them justice. The most expensive piece I’ve ever taken home had an original price tag of $480 a yard. Yikes!! Who can afford that?
But at the Scrap I can fill a whole bag with those pricey discontinued samples for just $5 bucks. That means I can make all kinds of fabulous (and affordable) things like sumptuous silk purses and scarves for craft fairs and my Etsy shop.
Tools and Help: The Scrap Exchange’s Sew Night Community Meetup is the ultimate deal–it’s FREE! On the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 6-9, machines (including a heavy-duty industrial and a serger), large tables for cutting and other tools; plus expert help, great creative ideas, and inspiration are available to all skill levels, free of charge. The next one is this Thursday night.
Sewing Classes: Not free but very affordable. For example, on Sunday I’m teaching a 3.5 hour Basic Sewing Workshop in the Design Center for just $25 including materials. Only one spot is still open in that class, but I’ll be teaching again in the fall. Here are the links for upcoming sewing classes, followed by some great projects made by my last group of Basic Sewing students. There’s something about the Scrap Exchange that just makes everyone super-creative!
